Webcam Modeling Explained
If you ask 10 different people “what does a webcam model do”, then you will probably get 10 different answers. The simplest explanation would be to say that a webcam models are basically an actresses that perform various adult oriented role plays with paying customers from around the world over the internet. These ladies pick a persona, which is their online character/identity, and perform shows while being paid per minute, block session, or through tips. Since webcam models are independent contractors, they are their own boss and only perform shows that they are comfortable with. These shows can range from non-nude chat to fully nude masturbation shows. So what they decide to do on cam is 100% their choice!
Due to the fact that this job consist of a lot of acting and role playing, it's hard for an outsider to know what is real and what is made up. To the right is a video trailer from a documentary called "Cam Girlz" by Sean Dunne. This film was intended to "enter the world of internet sex workers who find economic freedom, empowerment, intimacy, and creative self expression from the comfort of their own homes". In our opinion, this documentary seems to be more focused on selling the idea to the customer rather than showing the reality of being a webcam model. Not to say that most of this film is totally fake or exaggerated, but it defiantly makes it seem a lot more wholesome and intimate than it really is. It makes sense though, no webcam model will want to be filmed in a documentary and say that it is all b.s. because she will lose most of her regular customers and money. So while this film seems nice, I'm not going to lie to you and say this is how it really is.

On the right is a video from a home model named Ashe Maree. She is the typical 'girl next door' with every day problems, but chooses webcam modeling as her profession.
