Webcam Model FAQ

These are our most frequently asked questions by new and existing models.

What do i say???

The most important thing you can do to start a conversation is to look into your webcam, greet your customer by their username and welcome them to your chatroom. Make guests feel welcome and included in your chatroom.

If you want to get customers talking to you, one of the best things you can do is get them chatting about everyone’s #1 favorite subject: themselves. Ask your customers what they’re up to today, how old they are, what they do for work, what their kinks are, what porn do they watch, what is the wildest thing they’ve done in the bedroom? If you seem genuinely interested in their answer, that will encourage them to continue opening up to you! So don’t just ask - look eager and engaged. Guys don’t want a girl who’s willing, they want a girl who is excited!

How do I know which customers are worth my attention?

This isn’t something you’re going to be able to recognize right from the start, so greet every customer with an open mind. You won’t find customers with usernames like “BrokeFreeloader” or “100GoldTips,” so treat every new customer like a potentially big spender.

If you have been chatting with a customer off and on for 10+ minutes and he hasn’t tipped you or asked any questions about your show, he may take you to a show at some point, but he shouldn’t be taking up the majority of your attention. He could end up being a great freeloader who can help you land shows, even if he doesn’t spend the money himself.

If you have a customer sitting quietly or even silently for long periods, don’t discount him! Sometimes the quiet guys are just shy and waiting for the right moment, so make an effort to still try and include him in your chatroom.

OBS is being weird! What do I do?

OBS can be a touchy program. If you are ever having issues with it, please avoid making any changes to the program, stop streaming, and text the desk for assistance. We can usually resolve the problem in less than a minute!

Can I change my rates?

As an independent contractor, it would be unethical for us to dictate how much you can charge your clients, but we have been in business for a while, and we have the experience to see what helps models flourish and what tanks models’ earnings. You can set your rates as you see fit, but if you want some advice, we have plenty. When we set up new models’ profiles, we choose $2.99/4.99 because new models are on their own page, and on the New Models page, you are competing with models charging $0.99/min, so we like to keep new models rates pretty competitive to start.

Any time you increase your rates, you will notice a drop in your paid chat percentage because you will be falling out of the price point of some of your regulars. As long as your paid chat percentage doesn’t fall below 25%, then it wont affect your site placement or your flow of new traffic. That means that it’s just a matter of putting in enough hours to meet enough new customers to fill the gap in your paid chat percentage, so you are taking just as many shows as you did before you changed your rates. If you paid chat percentage falls too low, you will see less and less traffic and it will be harder to close the gap in your fan base, so for this reason, we usually don’t recommend models change their rates until they can keep a 40%+ average for the week.

If you plan to change your rates, come talk to us so we can help you figure out what to expect after your rate change, what hours you should work following a rate change, and we can give you general tips on how to grow your fan base!

How do some models make $1000 or more in a week?

All of our “Top Earners” have three (3) major traits in common.

First, they have a great natural work ethic. These models don’t crank out $1000+ by only scheduling themselves for 15 hours a week. If they can, it’s because they have put in a lot of work to get to that point. All of our Top Earners average between 15-30 hours online each week. Scheduled hours don’t matter, only the hours you spend streaming.

Second, they have a lot of energy on cam. These models understand that, no matter how poorly their shift starts, if they can stay pepped up, engaged, and seem excited to be on cam, a great customer can admire that and end up spending enough money on her to save her whole shift! But in reality, if you are smiling, giving your customers a ton of energy and you look like you’re having fun entertaining your Guest Chat, you won’t have to count on one awesome customer to “save” your shift because you’ll land a lot of great customers!

Lastly, these models are curious and want to improve. Our Top Earning models are always picking management’s brain! They want to know why their traffic is different, if there are more things they can offer on cam, what else they can do to earn money with Streamate, how to improve their ranking and placement, and how to improve their earnings. Because these models are asking questions, we can offer solutions and help them make more money. If you rely solely on Google to teach you how to be a great cam model, you won’t ever see the checks our Top Earners make.

Traffic is slow and i have only had four guys in my room for the last 30 minutes, what should i do?

Before I tell you what you can do, let me tell you what you should never do: entertain yourself on your phone while you stream, complain to your chat room, and stream for 15 minutes at a time to “check on the traffic.”

Now, there are lots of ways to make the most of a slow period. They happen often, but they always pass, unless you let it ruin your mood! First, sign out and take a moment to make sure your profile is updated. Have you changed your biopic at all recently? Is your schedule accurate? Is your fan mail answered? Have you sent out any content that was purchased? If you answered, “no” to any of those questions, get to work! If you answered, “yes” then the best thing you can do is message any regulars or big spenders you haven’t seen today and tell them you want to see them. You can force traffic into your room this way. Even if they can’t buy a show, you still have a chat room you can engage with until your organic traffic starts picking up again! That way, you are ready to engage and entertain your new audience.

Always try to stream for 45+ minutes at a time. The longer you stream for at one time, the higher your placement will rise on the site. That means if you started out your shift on the top of page 2, you could stream for an hour and a half and rise up to the top half of page 1! (Hint: that’s why traffic is always the best at the end of your shift.) If you are still having trouble, come ask a manager what else you can do to be productive during a slow period.

Why aren’t guys taking me to shows?

There could be a number of reasons why you aren’t landing shows. Are you holding yourself with confidence? Are you giving too much attention to freeloaders? Are your camera settings wild and affecting your placement on Streamate? Are you making your chat room a warm and hospitable environment? Is your body language lining up with what you are trying to communicate to customers? Whatever issue you are having, we can help you get to the bottom of it, and help you create a solution that will work for you! Don’t forget that management is your #1 resource - we are here to help you make as much money as possible! If you want to, you can give the manager permission to take notes on your free chat during your shift. This permission would expire at the end of your shift, so if you want more notes, please ask. Often, we find it’s small changes that need to be made, and these changes can yield big results.

If we have missed something and you still have questions, let us know! If you are in the building, please come to the desk to ask. Otherwise, you can click the button below and submit a question to us. Please be sure to use your personal email and not the email we created for your Streamate account.
